INTERNATIONAL DAY for the ELIMINATION of RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

Racism affects ALL RACES: no one ethnicity/culture/race/nation over historical time has a monopoly on it as a perpetrator or a victim of such discrimination. We can all do our part to understand that we share this world with various cultures.

Get to know your 'neighbour' locally and around the world.

Plan a visit to a cultural centre, an event, a restaurant, anything that is different from your culture. Teach your children that we are to live symbiotically on this planet if we are to all survive..... teach them that colour blind is not being racially sensitive, we should know and recognize that we are different and that being different is quite alright.

Different does not equal deviant.

The teaching of racism starts at home therefore the undoing of such 'mislearning' must also begin there.

See website for resource information to assist the education of this critical issue that affects all of us.

BOYCOTT COMMUNITY ACTION on HOMELESSNESS (CAH) MEMORIAL.....
December
Due to the obvious hypocrisy, malice and poor bashing that exist among the CAH staff and Steering committee RESPONSE: A THOUSAND VOICES is calling for a boycott of this annual memorial for those who died from abuses of poverty.

CAH knowingly dines with those who inflict immeasurable harm on those in poverty in the guise of building community. Those of us working in community want safe community and that can only be achieved when the corrupt government /civil servants are criminally charged with crimes against humanity and constitutional violations.

The unethical practices of the steering committee for CAH is a microcosm of the larger community that continues to ignore and hide the abusers of the poor. They do not engage in a meaningful way to eradicate the abuses of poverty.

So in respect for those who died needlessly this and every other year from the issues and abuses of poverty PLEASE BOYCOTT any events that are hosted by those perpetuating crimes and abuses against the Impoverished.

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY DECEMBER 10 .

There are various activities going on around the HRM but I do ask that you take a moment to think about issues closer to home. We tend to think about human right violations as something happening 'over there' or at war. Across Canada and in the province of Nova Scotia we have people on a daily basis who are being violated every moment of their day by those who should know better.

Every person in poverty is being violated either by a punitive and retentive policy makers, landlords, case workers or the police. Please make this a personal issue

SAY NO MORE TO THE RAPE OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN CANADA!

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: December 6
Please show your support by attending as many events as you can on this day that brings awareness and a policy of zero tolerance to this very sad issue of violence against women.

One such events is being held at SOUTH FOYER Province House (Hollis Street) at 10:10 am, no acts of violence are acceptable however the focus of this one particular gathering is for the awareness of sexual violence against women.

Please wear a PURPLE RIBBON on this day and everyday.
ZERO TOLERATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are many projects and workshops being offered in the week of October 16-20 on the ERADICATION OF POVERTY. We encourage the public to get involved for the International Eradication of Poverty Day set up by the United Nations for October 17.
We at RESPONSE have boycotted the following promoters due to their hypocrisy, selective moral outrage, nepotism and collusion with those who bash and rape the rights of the Impoverished communities.
1) Community Advocacy Network CAN
2) Community Action on Homelessness CAH
3) Struggling to Survive -Moving Forward- Womens Reform with Community Services
Each have embarked in actions that 'appear' to be pro-community. It is the actions or lack thereof behind the scenes that causes one to be greatly concerned for the real motivation and agendas.
We would like to give a cautious shout out to HCAP for their daring direct action at the department of community services office on Gottigen Street Halifax. They embarked on an action whereby halting work at this office. It is our understanding that one arrest was made against one of the primary organizers who was wrongfully charged with assault., or so they say. Oddly not one case worker is ever charged with assault for all the injury they inflict upon vulnerable Nova Scotians.
RESPONSE had been asked to walk along in solidarity with HCAP and we agreed in solidarity but realized HCAP has an affiliation with CAN, CAH, NSGEU and Dalhousie Legal Aid and Jeanne Fay and we hold them as fake jakes and fraud maudes who had no problem allowing Irvine Carvery and his posse of sick thugs to commit depraved racists acts against my family everyday.
These weak white folk that HCAP align with allowed Carvery and Housing to murder my family one act of racism and classism at a time.
WE could not 'sit' with them on this important action. We also will not knowingly collude with any action that portrays certain groups as the unciviled ones while those who are most dangerous promote themselves as the most civilized ones. They are recognized by being the ones forever on their knees to government with their passive voices while daily people are being fragged by same said government with their consent.
RESPONSE does not collude or support any organization or individual that ignores the voices from community. We do not support any agenda that seeks to favour one voice over another in competition. We do not endorse any action that seeks to ignore the real issues while pretending to be addressing them.
For this reason we do not support HCAP who we now know received funds from the very unions that protect public servants that abuse the vulnerable and for this HCAP should be ashamed of themselves. We have found out that they accepted monies from carpentry unions to keep non -union labourers out of the locations during strikes, and for this we cannot support their bully tactics in stopping people from making an honest day's wage to feed themsevlves. HCAP has proven to be the reckless bullies just like those they claim to be harming the poor.
do you rely on volunteers as a valuable part of your organization? then you will want to know about this!!!
PLEASE LET MINISTER ODA KNOW THAT CUTS TO VOLUNTEER INITIATIVES IS CONTRARY TO THE SENTIMENTS OF CANADIANS .
Dear Volunteers and CVI Members:
This week volunteers and community based organizations suffered a major blow. On September 25, the Federal Government announced spending cuts totaling $1 billion over the next two years. Many of these cuts target volunteer organizations and community initiatives dependent on volunteers. Included in the cuts was $9.7 million for the Canada Volunteerism Initiative (CVI), the initiative will be discontinued effective March 31,2007.
We have not been advised how the Federal Government intends to replace their investment in community based volunteers. NSCVI understands that many of you are currently responding to the negative impact these cuts will have on your own organization and the citizens dependent upon your programs and services. We want to assure you that during the upcoming months we will continue to promote the essential role volunteers play in virtually every aspect of society.
What NSCVI is doing... Our primary concern is to advocate on behalf of volunteers to ensure that the federal government actively and strategically supports community based volunteers. We are also assessing how this announcement will effect our2006/07 work plans - the NSCVI Community Support Funding Program will remain available to volunteer groups.
How you can help...
1- Let us know if your organization or group has been affected by these cuts.
2- As your group advocates for reinstatement of its own funding remember to promote the importance of volunteerism. Over 12 million volunteers contribute the equivalent of $14 billion in services. It is essential the Federal Government strategically invests in volunteer resources.
3- Feel free to send us copies of letters, press releases, or any other forms of communication related to these cuts.
Contact your MP and/or Hon. Beverly Oda Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women Oda.B@parl.gc.ca and let them know volunteerism is a priority for Canadians AND to request more information as to how the Federal Government plans to invest in community based volunteers.
Together we will ensure volunteerism is seen as a priority by the federal government.The NSCVI web site will continue to keep us connected and updated about this and other important volunteer opportunities, challenges and resources.Sincerely, Becky Mason
Seniors, disabled programs put off
Chronicle-Herald, Apr. 4/07, pp. B1-B2By DAVID JACKSON Provincial Reporter
The Tories’ cash crunch has put new or improved programs for disabled people and senior citizens on hold.
Premier Rodney MacDonald ( Noddy Roddy) and Finance Minister Michael Baker (the Faker Baker) said when they released the provincial budget more than a week ago that they had to delay some of the campaign promises for this year, but had information on only a few.
An updated list of the 33 commitments — with a price tag of $114 million for 2007-08 — from Mr. Baker’s department on Tuesday shows check marks beside 19 of them, another 10 "in progress" and four deferred.
The deferred item that would have cost the most is extending the $500 healthy-living tax incentive to adults, which would have cost an estimated $8 million.
Other deferred promises include ending the "clawback" on increases in the Canada Pension Plan disability for people on income assistance, increasing the seniors’ property tax rebate and matching the federal transit tax credit.
Another promise to disabled people that’s listed as "in progress" is the creation of a new allowance that the Tory platform said would recognize many Nova Scotians can’t work because of a permanent disability......
RESPONSE
..those of us living with permanent disabilities have been fighting the very punitive and retalitory mentalities of Tory and Dept of Community Services on the their limited use of the English language: apparently they are confused that the medical term 'permanent' actually means ' permanent'-
The amount of begging, degradation and retaliation a service user with legit medical issues endures is inhumane and unconstitutional. This same government found 7 million for a pre- bid COMMONWEALTH flirtation allowance. The only thing common about that wealth is the ignorance of those who found the Bid money in their back pockets..... both 'the Faker Baker' and 'Noddy Roddy' : guilty on all accounts...
Mr. MacDonald said it was difficult choosing to delay promises made in the campaign, but a balanced budget and debt reduction had to come first. I must have missed all these debt reduction sentiments when he was trying to flirt with PREGAME BIDS with his play group...
..I just hope he got to smoke a ciggie afterward...
"One of the things you have to understand during a campaign is that you’re at a certain point in time when you’re making those commitments and you’re doing so with the best possible information," he said. Oh contraire Noddy Roddy- we KNOW exactly how it works.....nice try though but not all of us are smoking crack..some of us..despite how poor and injured YOUR government keeps us...actually 'pay' attention..
Mr. MacDonald said the delays are a result of a lack of money or the need for more time to plan.
LACK OF MONEY!!!!
WAS THAT BEFORE OR AFTER THE PREGAME BID NODDY RODDY?
For example, he said the working families pharmacare program, which is now scheduled to start next March 1 instead of Jan. 1, is a huge undertaking that requires time to put in place.
That will cost an estimated $5 million this fiscal year, rather than the $25-million estimate in the platform.
As for the new allowance for disabled people, estimated to cost $3.9 million a year, Community Services Minister Judy Streatch said the province wants to see whether the federal government follows through on its suggestion of a disability allowance so the province could complement that. She said her department has about 13,000 disabled clients. And how many of these service users were made worse by having incompetent and untrained staff withholding medical necessities?
Mr. MacDonald said the healthy-living tax credit may be deferred, but the province is putting $5 million toward large recreation facilities this year.
And the premier said the province has helped disabled people in other areas, such as making more money available in a home renovation program and
committing to make all government buildings accessible by 2020. Really? Would that be for those service users who really do not use the government buildings?
Stop passing the poisoned chalice Noddy Roddy and Faker Baker!!!!
Who POLICES the POLICE?????
Police retaliation and organized abuse is out of control in the more impoverished communities of HRM. Just because you cannot see it does not mean it is not there. Agencies, especially the mayor's office and NS Police Commission work hard at hiding and spinning the truth to the unsuspecting public throughout NS.
Please help stop the abuse of vulnerable folks in our province!!!!!
